KBF Awards This started out with just La Porte High School when I first started. As they had several Valedictorians that were awarded each year. Recently though, LPHS has gone to point system that awards 1 valedictorian and 1 salutatorian. As a result, we have expanded to include both South Central and New Prairie High schools. We chose these schools because we also support Key Clubs at each of the schools. In fact I know of one key club member last year from New Prairie who was also a KBF Award winner. The event is held each May before schools let out. We invite the students and their parents for lunch, also invited are the superintendants and principals. The principals give a brief synopsis of each student and present them with a plaque that is provided by Kiwanis.

Radio Days Local radio station WLOI-AM allows the Kiwanis Club of La Porte to sell :30 second radio ads to local businesses and to keep all the profits. We do this in February during the anniversary of our club. The businesses can purchase Kiwanis prepared scripts or one of their own ads if they are currently on the air. The ads will run during a one week period (our anniversary) and on Tuesday of that week the Kiwanians become the local DJ's, broadcasting from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. We have 3 or 4 periods (3 minutes or more) each hour to discuss Local, District and International Kiwanis activities and what we stand for. This is a fun and exciting event.
